7 Easy Ways to Clean Leather Car Seats
Keep your leather car seats in pristine condition with some of the tricks in this article.
Leather car
seats add a touch of luxury to your car. Of course, leather car seats are
expensive, so you need to take care of them. Here's how to clean leather
car seats so they look good and last longer.
- First,
vacuum the chair carefully to clean dirt from the crevices. Next,
apply the cleaning solution on your leather car seat. Do not use
bleach or ammonia-based cleansers as they can damage the skin. You
can use a commercial leather cleaner, or you can make your own
cleanser. Mix warm water with liquid dish soap in a bucket. Use
a ratio of 5 parts water to 1-part soap. Wet a cloth with the
cleaning solution and clean the seat surface. Do not saturate the
leather by cleaning the upholstery with too much water. Water can
seep into the seams and into the pillow. Excess water can also stain
the skin. Wipe clean with a second wet cloth. Dry thoroughly
with a towel.
- Another
DIY idea for cleaning skin: Mix 1/2 cup olive oil with 1/4 cup vinegar in
a spray bottle. Spray on the seat, let sit for five minutes and wash
off.
- The
best way to clean leather upholstery is to prevent stains. If your
car seat is stained, the leather must be cleaned immediately!
- Toothpaste
can also be used to clean leather car seats covers. Apply non-gel toothpaste
on the dirty area. Use a soft toothbrush to scrub the
stains. Wipe the stain with a clean cloth and then dry with a towel.
- In
addition to toothpaste, it turns out that lemon and cream of
tartar can also be used to clean car seats. Use a mixture of
lemon and cream of tartar only on light coatings, as lemon has a bleaching
effect. Mix equal parts lemon and cream of tartar into a
paste. Apply it to the dirty area and leave it on for 30
minutes. Use a damp sponge to remove the paste.
- Acetone
or alcohol: Dip a cotton swab in nail polish remover or alcohol to clean
the stain. Once you've removed the stain, clean the area with a
solution of liquid soap and warm water. Wipe with a clean cloth.
- Baking
soda powder: This cleanser is great for removing oil and grease
stains. Sprinkle on the dirty area and rub with a damp
cloth. Leave it for a few hours or overnight. The soda will
absorb the oil. Wipe the powder with a soft cloth. Follow with a
damp cloth to remove residue, and dry with a towel.
Once your
upholstery is clean, apply a leather conditioner that contains sunscreen to
prevent the skin from cracking and dulling. Conditioner also makes the
skin resistant to stains and gives a shiny appearance. Knowing how to
clean leather will extend the life of your car seats and
make them look like new.
